games

  • geoguess.games - FOSS, selfhostable verison of geoguessr
  • ddrace network - some kind of timed platformer. I’ve never played this, but it seems to have a cult following online. I think it’s cool to see
  • xonotic - a FOSS arena shooter, and my favorite one. yes, I think it’s better than quake 3 arena. fight me
  • srb2kart - absolutely no-contest the best kart racer out there. infinite fun if you get the right friends

arts & design

  • moebius - modern ansi/ascii art creator
  • tidal cycles - live coding music with tidal cycles
  • armorpaint - open-source alternative for substance painter
  • npainter - fast and simple digital painting software (WIP)
  • normal toolkit - an aseprite extension for normal maps
  • ucupaint - a blender addon to manage texture layers for the eevee and cycles renderers
  • bonzomatic - shader programming tool

stuff for the internet

  • pale moon - based on a fork of old firefox gecko engine, but it’s developed so much into half its own thing at this point
  • servo - an independent browser engine + browser; still quite experimental
  • ladybird - another independent browser
  • chawan - a TUI http/sftp/gopher/gemini browser with CSS, inline image, and javascript support
  • rssguard - I haven’t actually used this yet… but I should! it looks like a modern, updated version of the rss reader I am currently using, quiterss
  • aerc - the tui email client that I use, which I really like using
  • meli email client - interesting tui email client project, haven’t gone too far into it but it seems neater in the ux department than aerc right now
  • claws mail - my former mail client, that I still think is really good. unfortunately only supports the MH mailbox format
  • watch-party a selfhostable watch party thingy

performance/compression

  • auto-cpufreq - cpu frequency helper, supposedly better than tlp
  • scx - alternative linux CPU schedulers
  • bc_crunch dependency-free lossless compressor for BC/DXT textures

libraries

  • libwm - a small library for x window manipulation
  • genode operating system framework - a really interesting OS framework project
  • RE# - high-performance regex library supporting many operations usually delegated elsewhere in other regex software

desktop stuff

scripting

programming languages

  • uiua - a tacit, stack-based array language
  • koka - a programming language with algebraic effects
  • ATS - a proof-based language that transpiles to C
  • unision language - some functional language I bookmarked but forgot why. homepage has that almost-too-clean-looking stink, but nonetheless is interesting
  • moonscript - a coffeescript-esque language that compiles to lua
